Car insurance claim time

How log does it take for the insurance company to settle the car insurance claim in case of total car damage? Is there any written law which makes it mandatory for the insurance company to settle the car insurance claim within specified time incase of total damage of the car.

I had taken the car insurance policy from National Insurance and its been more then 1.5 months since i have filled for my full claim. A surveyor has survied the car also but there after no action has been taken.

There is no time limit stipulated. However, 1.5 months is not unreasonable. The Insurance companies may take upto six months to one year for final settlement of a claim.
