Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in India

My maternal granddad lived in a rented house in kolkata since 1940s. in 1984, my father became the tenant. soon, my granddad and the landlord died. landlord had several sons and daughters. two sons live in our adjacent house. My father paid rent to them. My father died in oct 2010. The landlord's sons refused to take rent from me. I gave that to rent controller. for last few months, the landlords are thretening me of dire consequences if I dont pay them lakhs of rupees as "pagri" and thousands as rent with retrospective effect. I filed police complain. But, soon, the forcibly entered house and threatened me. I again filed police complain. My lawyer made 144 on my house. He is asking me to do civil injunction. I had asked the present "landlords" to show documents to prove their ownership of this house as the tax bill is still in thier father's name and he had several children. My lawyer asking me to challenge their ownership as well. He said if they are not the owner, then I may get relief. I am confused. Please advise.
