Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in India

the rental premise is on father in laws name. my husband expired i requested the landlord to transfer the said premise on my name, for which he replied saying you can stay free on my premise and i will not accept your rent. i need to know what was on his mind for such behaviour. I keep on sending a registered letter with the amount of rent by check which he refuse to accept. Now in this case what shall I do where is this situation going to lead to. now the building is in a diplicated situation notices are being given by the BMC authorities he shows no interest.

You should send rent by Money Order and maintain record of refused money orders. Thereafter if landlord files eviction case on the ground of non-payment of rent, you shall have a good defense.
