In India rent laws are different in different States. The tenancy conditions also depend upon the monthly rent originally settled and now being paid by you.

However, in order to avoid any harassment, you may send your complaint by a registered letter to the police station of the area with a copy of the higher authorities like Superintendent of Police, or Commissioner of Police. If the problem still continues, you may file a civil suit in the trial court of your area seeking an injunction that you should not be forcibly evicted from the premises 'except in accordance with law'.

In order to avoid litigation or any kind of harassment, you may consider settlement with the landlady on mutually agreed terms.
