Legal Question in Personal Injury in India

I had sold a vehicle 8yrs back. A few days back a person approached me claiming to be the current owner of the vehicle. It seems the tittle of the vehicle was never transferred from my name. The current user of the vehicle has met with an accident involving a thrid person. What would be my liabilities and how do I get out of it. I dont think I would be able to locate the signed document we had collected from the buyer when we handed over the vehicle

the burden was on you to intimate the transport authority of having sold the vehicle. Since you are the recorded owner, you may be sued for compensation (civil liability) under the motor vehicle act. The court will find you liable only and only if the current owner did not have the insurance of the vehicle and also if the driver did not have a valid driving licence.
