Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

Hi, I entered into a contract of 11months agreement for a apartment for a rent of Rs 6000/month. I am a tenant. I occupied in Dec2009. Now the owner is demanding Rs 8000 from May2010. Is this legal to change the rent in the middle of agreement period? But there is no point mentioned about the revision period in the agreement. The owner says that as there is no condition mentioned about the revision period and he has the rights. Please let me the legality of this. Thanks in advance.
