Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Indiana

Breach of Contract

I have recently moved in to a home that I am renting. I was told verbally and in my contract that I would receive 2 months free rent and my first rent payment would be due on January 1st. Now, 2 weeks later they provide me with an addedum stating that I will need to pay December Rent because they had made an error? Is this legal?

Also, when I moved in they did not have my water on and the hot water did not work for at least 5 days after moving in. I feel that they are taking full advantage of me.

Re: Breach of Contract

Not having reviewed the terms of your contract (lease agreement), if there is written language that you are to have the first two months rent free, then don't sign the addendum. By signing the addendum, you are agreeing to change the terms of the contract.
