Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

We live in Indiana. In 2009 my husband had open heart surgery that went bad so after 2 strokes & 4 surgeries I was unable to care for him in our motor home which was our home. I could not care for him in the motor home so I had to let it be repo'd & I had to find a place to live. We could not afford both being on a set income. After our lawyer's contact with them they finally quit hassling us. We couldn't even afford to bankrupt. In january 2015 we received a 1099 for the $55,000 and had to file taxes which were forgiven due to our income. I was advised the credit bureaus with a letter from us would zero the report with and unpaid bal but zeroed. Now we trying to buy a house for $50,000 with approval until the debt reappeared. Can they put the amount back on after sending us the 1099? I really need to know asap. Thank you.
