Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

I run a small business(1 part time employee) I had a customer pick up an order, part of the order was for services and part was for goods purchased, he paid with a check, over $1400. On the same day he stopped payment on the check. I first tried to call him, then sent him a certified letter requesting an explaination and payment. I have recieved no reply, not even a complaint, it just seems he did not want to pay. I have never had this happen in almost 25 years in business. Would this be considered theft, taking goods with no intent on paying? Is this different than writing a check on insuffient funds? Also it appears he took the order out of state, we are near the state line and his check has an out of state address on it. Can I file a police report and in which state?

I would file a small claims complaint in the state where the bank is located. Use the Indiana bad check statute in your small claims case. You can try contacting the Indiana prosecutor for your county.
