Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

Husband needs help

My husband plead guilty without an attorney to sexual assault against my 16 yr old daughter. He did this under great stress and was not thinking clearly. He already has been sentenced but we were told we could appeal this so that he can get an attorney. Where do we go from here? The jail says the court house the court house says the jail.

Re: Husband needs help

Your husband will either have to hire an appeals attorney or ask the court to appoint one if he cannot afford one. If he would like, contact the state or local bar association for names of private attorneys. Otherwise, he may wish to to send a written statement to the court requesting appointment. The court will then have a hearing to determine need. However, I would urge him to act ASAP. Do not delay. This should have been outlined for him by the court already. As not all the facts have been given, it is difficult at best to answer this question beyond this.
