Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Adoption

My sister was killed over 4 years ago and I have been raising her 3 children since then. I would like to adopt them, but am unsure where to begin. I don't have much money because I am a full time student, but would like this more than anything. Can you please trell me where I should begin?

Re: Adoption

Please accept my condolences. That is not the kind of loss that one gets over very easily.

You should contact social security and determine whether benefits would stop if there is an adoption. Raising three kids is not cheap and the kids may be better off not being adopted, and so may you.

Assuming that is not a concern, you need to discuss this case with an attorney. If you can obtain the consent of the father, this could be a relatively painless experence, and not too expensive. Nevertheless, because of the serious problems you could have in the future if the adoption is not done properly, you should have an attorney.
