Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My dad was beating on me yesterday while I had a friend over, and he had me down on my bed grabbing me around the neck. My friend called the police after my dad started hitting me in the face and chest. I am dark complected, my adoptive father is black; bruises etc. don't usually show up anywhere on me. He made my nose bleed and bruised my upper lip, yet the police, when they arrived, said that they didn't have enough physical evidence. And that they would consider it "rough discipline". Help me please.. what do I do first? Forms, phone numbers, anything. I need to get out.
