Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

Judgement collection

If a judgement for collection occurs in Iowa, is it enforcible in Michigan? This debt was for the portion of the cost of my mother's care in a nursing home that was paid by the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Re: Judgement collection

The creditor must register the Iowa judgment in Michigan as a foreign judgment for it to be enforceable in Michigan. It is not an extensive process. The creditor would be required to give notice of the application of the registration to the debtor. GJR (248) 305-5840
