Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

i have been divoriced for a year and a half part of the marital assets was a 24 foot boat. which three years ago my ex father in law toke from the house and put in one of his storage buildings and would not return to me or my ex. my 16 year old son does lawn mowing for his grandfather found this boat at one of the propertys. anyway on july 4th my son went there hooked the boat up and brought it home.

i have since been contacted by the sheriff that the boat was reported stolen and to protect my son told them i new nothing about it. which i do have it in my postion how do i keep my son from getting in trouble if any and myself for lying to the cops

That was a pretty lame thing to do. I think maybe you need to get in touch with the sheriff asap and explain to him what went on and why you did what you did. If you can prove the boat's yours you should be in good shape, but don't be surprised if more comes out of this than you bargained for.
