Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

i live in iowa and was put on misdemeanor probation which states i cannot own or possess or transport any guns until my probation is over in two years. the problem is my mom and girlfriend who i live with own guns which are in safes under lock and key which i have no access to yet my probation officer says i can be charged with a felony if the guns are in the house im living in. im not a felon nor do the charges im on probation for bar me from owning guns upon completion of my probation. is he full of crap and what should i do because my mom definitely wont give up her guns for any reason.

If your conviction was for domestic assault he's right and you're courting disaster. Also, if you were convicted of an aggravated misdemeanor, in terms of federal law he's absolutely right because anything with a jail sentence of more than a year is, for purposes of federal firearms law, a felony.

What happens when you're off probation matters not as far as what happens while you are. The idea is that you show by your good conduct that you're worth the risk. Prove them wrong and off you go.

Right now your PO is more important to you than anyone else in the world, but if you don't recognize that and think he or she is "full of crap", the fall will be short, fast, and painful.
