Legal Question in DUI Law in Iowa

I lived in Iowa in 2001 and was arrested for a DUI. I got an attorney that went to court for me he said I didn't have to go. I told him I was moving back home to Ky because I was only there for a short period. He later told me not to worry about it because they wouldn't drive that far for me. Since then I've renewed my license a time or two the last being in 2011 with no problem. I went to renew my license the other day and there was a block on it from the Iowa DOT. I called and they told me I had to send them $400.00 plus go to driving school here in Ky which will cost extra. I asked if there were some kind of statute of limitations since it had been 15 yrs and the lady ho-humed around and then said no. My question is do I have to do what they said since it's been 15 yrs or is there some kind of statute of limitations in this case???

I suspect there was a bench warrant out for you all this time. If you want your license pay the fine and costs and take the drivers school and count yourself lucky you weren't hauled off to jail. You got bad advice in 2001. If you want your license that is what you'll have to do.
