Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

For 4 years I assumed that I was the father of a child. I was told by the mother that I may not be the father, I rec'd child support papers in the mail stating I need to pay support for a child that might not be mine. What are my legal options? I asked for a DNA test, and was told I have to pay for it. The mother should be the one to pay for the DNA not me.

I need more information here before I can render an opinion. Are you on the birth certificate or have you filed an affidavit of paternity? Iowa is an equitable paternity state.
