Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa

I've been looking for places to rent in Iowa. I'm not having much luck however I did find one place that I wouldn't mind living in. However I was told up front that the complex is up for sale. I would like to know what my rights are as a tenant when the apartment complex is sold. Is my lease still valid when then new management takes over? If the lease is still valid do they have the right to change my rent? If the new management company ask me to sign a new lease with different terms and I don't agree to the terms how long would I legally have in order to find a new place? If there is any other advice you can give regarding this rent, tenants and new management firms I would greatly appreciate it. I don' want to find myself without a place to live and want to protect my assets.

Thank

Melissa

It depends on the terms of the lease. Generally, the new owner would be subject to the terms of the lease and would not be allowed to change those terms until the lease expired.
