Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

what do i do now

I have a hospital bill form 2001 I thought Insurance paid but there was a missunderstanding on what I owed I am now being suid for almost 3000 dollars I dont have. I know I owe the bill plus intrest. Do I attend court or just not show up. I would like to set up payments to pay. Should I get a lawyor when I know I am quilty??

It is almost always better to deal with a suit against you than to ignore it. If you show up for court and plead that you owe a certain lesser amount, the judge may ask the other side if they will accept judgment for that amount, rather than go through the hassle of having a trial. In this way, you may be able to minimize your debt.

It generally does not help one's credit rating to have a judgment against. You may or may not be negatively effected by a judgment against you. For this and other reasons, it is not possible to tell you if you will come out ahead having legal counsel. But, generally it is better to have counsel than to not.
