Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

in 2007 i missed a court date in johnson county , i called cause of vehicle problems on the way to this court hearing , it is noted on my file , i was under the impression that a clerk was going to get a hold of me on the effect that the clerk said they would run it by the judge , then on monday in november 2010 i recieved a call from a sheriff buddie of mine that i have a warrant and he will give me a chance to take care of it before he comes to pick me up , the court date in 2007 was basically to see the progress on my back child support , in 2007 i owed $12,000 + , friday i recieved a quote of $1,080 , my ex lived in johnson county untill 4 years ago , she now lives the next county over from me , is there a way i can get a change in location on this court hearing and in the process get an appeal on this bench warrant that has been place on me ?

You may reques that the Judge Quash or recall teh bench warrant. To do so, you will either have to apepar and post bond, or get the judge to release the warrant. Obviously, if you pay the outstanding balance it will help your cause. If you cannot pay the debt now, then you should fiel amotion to withdraw the Warrant, and schedule it for hearing. You may have to post bond to do this. If both you and your spouse live in a county other than Johnson, you may be able to get the matter transferred. But, you may have to resolve the warrant issue first. I suggest you hire counsel to represent or assist you in this delimna.
