Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Divorce with Family Business

Dir Sirs,

My wife and I were seperated 3 mo. when she filed for divorce. I picked up the paperwork then talked to her lawyer. Paperwork stated all assets would be devided equally. One Business was destroyed (But later reopened by Her), I asked her lawyer about the other business, he said she had not mentioned it.He said he would look into it and redo the paperwork reflecting the new information.I never recieved the updated divorce decree. All I got after the court date was a letter stating that all things had been devided equally. So I recieved Nothing from 2 family businesses. I have the 2 boys 11&13, she has daughter 3 yrs, yet I recieved nothing !

What can I do !

Re: Divorce with Family Business

Did you attend court on the date the Divorce was granted? If so, you should know what the division of property was. Why are u relying on ex-wife or her attorney to deliver papers to you? Get yourself to the Clerk of the District Court where the Divorce was granted and request a copy of the Journal Entry of Decree of Divorce, man! In Kansas, when counsel file Petition for Divorce, they must also file a form setting forth all marital and nonmarital property belonging to the parties which is subject to division as marital property. What were you doing while this was going on? If you determine that you were not advised of property of value prior to taking the divorce, contact local counsel for assistance. This kind of frugality always costs you more to straighten out than you ever saved by not retaining legal counsel at the beginning. good luck.
