Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kansas

Time Limit?

My granddaughter was one of 2 girls molested by my daughter's boyfriends step-father. This happened over 2 years ago and each and every court proceeding has been delayed by the defense. The D.A. really wanted to sweep all this under the rug because this man is a somewhat prominent man in the community. My daughter did not have the money to hire an attorney to get legal advise. As of this date the D.A. is trying to get my daughter to agree to drop the one count of rape against my granddaughter to a lesser charge. The other girl involved is my daughter's boyfriend's daughter whose mother has filed a civil suit against the man. My question is, is there a time limit on when a civil suit like this has to be filed? And can we still file one against this man?

Re: Time Limit?

The two-year statute of limitations for a civil lawsuit alleging a tort claim is not going to begin to run until the minor reaches age 18. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this matter further.
