It is unclear what you mean by "predators" It woudl be dangerous for an atotrney toguess at what you intended, in order to give you advice specifc to any case. You might repost with a bit more anonymous factual information. But, generally, one may devise their property to who they wish. The propriety of that designation can be called into question by claims of undue influence, fraud, or lack of testamentary capacity, among others. Even if the designation was vaild, a surviving spouse can have certain powers to postpone or prevent certian transfers of the homestead.

If you wish to get more specific advice, you shoudl reproat or consult diretly with a probate attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultaiton.

Good luck
