Social Security proceeds are exempt -- just be sure not to commingle the Social Security money with non-exempt money. If a creditor sues you, obtains a judgment, and tries to attach your bank account, you can challenge the attachment by raising the exemption.

Or you can avoid all that by filing for bankruptcy (assuming bankruptcy is otherwise appropriate for you -- get a free consultation from an experienced bankruptcy attorney to find out).

You can find knowledgeable bankruptcy attorneys at www.nacba.org (National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys) or take a look at my website: www.MyFederalLawyer.com.
