attempted murder

I am the prosecutions witness in a case where my ex-husband is charged w/attempted murder against me. I lied to the officer saying he slit my throat. I need to know if I tell the truth now before the trial begins what repremand can i receive and should I have an attorney before I tell the officers the truth.

You should consult an attorney before advising the prosecuting attorney of the problem. If this is as you say, you must tell them. You are subject to some perjury charges if the situation is persued and you are also subject to a possible civil action from the defendant. An attorney may be able to ease your way through this. Most definitely CONSULT AN ATTORNEY. Nothing that you might possibly face compares with what your ex-husband faces if you continue in the deception. The consequences to him are beyond calculation.
