Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Abandoned

My son's biological mother and I were never married...my son was left at my doorstep when he was just 2 years old and he is now 6 years old, his biological mother has since only seen him one time 2 years ago (her choice). I have been given temporary custody but my question is: How do I acquire full custody and how do I go about having his last name changed to my last name since my last name was never given to him at birth (how this sliped past me I'm not sure). I would think my son would have the right to my last name. Paternity has already been settled.

Re: Abandoned

To obtain permanent custody you need to make a motion and then a hearing must be held. The name change request would be by petition in the probate division of district court, upon petition, with notice to the mother.
