Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kentucky

Civil Judgment

The local hospital sued me for about $400.00 in bills. I paid before there was a judgment issued and the lawyer for the hospital said if I paid it before the court date there would be no civil judgment. In the mail yesterday I received notice from the court that the matter was dismissed and it was settled. Since it was dismissed, it shouldn't show on my credit report as a civil judgment should it?

Re: Civil Judgment

The order that you received is common when a case is settled before judgment. It should not be reported as a "JUDGMENT" however the people who "troll" the files for this information may not know the difference. It is very important to keep track of your credit file. If you discover that it is listed on your credit report as a judgment, then you need to protest it and advise the hospital attorney of the act. You will need to send the credit reporting agency copies of the court documents but they have a great amount of leeway as to how this is interpreted.
