Legal Question in Immigration Law in Kentucky

Immigration Law

20 year old male brought to the United States illegally by his mother at the age of 15. Was a victim of domestic violence as a minor (police report filed, hospital reports) and a victim of violent crime at the age of 19 (police report filed). We have been advised that he could apply for the U visa and that he has a strong case- we've now been waiting for almost a year for the police dept. to sign the supplement confirming victimization. They are reluctant to do so on a city-wide level for immigrants. Is there anything that can be done legally to get the necessary paperwork from the police? He's an intelligent young man, studying english, the legal guardian of his 12 year old sister- he has many job offers but cannot work because he refuses to work under a false social security number.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Immigration Law

If an attorney reviewed the case and finds that it is a strong one, he can request certification from the police department or someone who is a designee to sign the supplement. Further, the police are not the only ones who can certify. The following I believe are also able to certify on the I-918 Supplement:

 Prosecutors

(District Attorney or Assistant D.A also)

 Police Officers

 Judges

 DHS Officers

 State or Federal Agency Employee

Possibly DA Victim Advocate if they can

So, see if any of the above will help you out and advise them about the police dept's reluctance to fill out the supplement. Something should be done about that considering that the police are so easy to pick up illegals and file anything and everything for the Department of Homeland Security!

Best of luck to you and the young man!
