Hello and thank you for choosing LawGuru!

When an individual dies they leave behind property in what is called an "estate." The estate will need to be probated before property contained in the estate may be lawfully distributed.

If the probate of your mother's estate has not begun then you should hire an attorney to assist with the petition to probate and to have you appointed as the estate's administrator. The administrator is charged with paying the estate's debts from the estate assets and is responsible for distributions.

Please feel welcome to contact my office to schedule a free consultations.

Thank you and good luck!
