Legal Question in Disability Law in Louisiana

Pet Perscribed By Doctor

My doctor perscribed a pet for me to have at home, I have high blood pressure, anxiety and depression and he feels a pet would benefit my condition. The apartment complex I live in has a no pet policy but they said if I had a perscription they would charge $250. pet deposit and I would have to buy liability insurance all of which I can not afford. The doctor perscribed the pet because I am taking all the medications I am able to take and with all the studies done shows a pet lowers blood pressure and helps relieve anxiety and depression. Is there any thing I can do legaly?

Re: Pet Perscribed By Doctor

I think all you can do is try to deduct the expenses of the increased rental as a medical expense, but you'll have to talk to an accountant about that one.

The apartment is not denying your pet, they are saying that pets require a deposit and insurance.

A prescription does not reasonably transform a pet into the equivalent of a breathing machine. And, I would expect that the IRS would even argue with the deduction because there are plenty of other ways to reduce stress, other than having a pet.
