Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

I shall be graduating high school after just turning 17. I intend to go to college immediately but i wonder what it will be like legally. Like, will i still be under parental care, or emancipated?

You will still be a minor until you turn 18, thus your parents will still have legal guardianship of you and will have to sign any documents on your behalf. You will not be emancipated just because you entered college.

The college will be acting "In Loco Parentis" until you turn 18. That is a latin term simply meaning "in the place of the parents" and it means exactly what it says. The school has a heightened (although not absolute) duty to look out for your well-being while you are attending as a minor.

Once you turn 18, you will be an adult and can do as you please within the bounds of the law. However, even then the school has the right (and even the duty) to share any and all information about you to your parents, so long as your parents are claiming you as a dependent on their taxes. If your parents foot the bills, they get to see your grades and other school records too.
