Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

I had credit card debt about 9g. Could not make minimum payments since over a year now. had to move out of US. now it seems sheriff/cop came looking for me in my old residence. I would make the payment but only after I have a job that pays me little over survival cost. I do not have any property or assets in the US. What are the consequences? Please advise

I am guessing they were trying to serve you with suit papers unless there is something here that could be considered theft. But if you are being sued, once they can'f find you they will appoint a curator who will also try to find you and eventually they will get a judgment for the principle, attorneys fees and court costs. That figure will increase by legal interest until it is paid or bankrupted.
