Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
Drug court and Article 893
I pled guilty to possesion of pain killers. Was given three years. Sentence was deferred and placed in drug court for 18 months probation and given article 893. This is my first offense and never been arrestes before. The drug court hand book says upon completion of drug the sentence would be satisfied with charges withdrawn. It wouldthen be the responsibility of the participant to begin the expungement process. My question is with the article 893 the, deferred sentence, the charges being withdrawn and the expungement. Will this be a conviction on my record and will I be able to own firearms and hunt. And will this stop me from getting a goo job. I know good companies I am qualified to work for but do not want to apply till I know this out come

Re: Drug court and Article 893
If you are successful in completing probation, file the Motion to Dismiss and it is granted, then it is as if you were found not guilty of the charges. This is obviously not a conviction and you can own firearms etc. And you can get as good a job as you can handle.
