Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Louisiana

Female continuously passed over for promotion

I have been with my law enforcement department for eight years and have served as an undercover narcotics agent, correctional officer, and am currently assigned to our criminal patrol division. I have seen male peers of mine with less experience get promoted to a supervisor position over me. I have also been told that the reason I am not getting promoted is because of the fact that our Sheriff will not have a female supervisor in the criminal patrol division. I have never been the subject of disciplinary action, and recently have been filling in on my shift as an acting supervisor. In this position, I field calls from junior officers, check and initial completed criminal reports, and at times actually run the shift while the primary supervisor is in meetings. My question is this, do I have grounds for a gender discrimination law suit, and if I do, then what type of an attorney should I speak with? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Re: Female continuously passed over for promotion

As you describe it, sexual discrimination appears to be the basis upon which you have been denied promotion. Be sure that there are no other reasons the department can point to. If you are certain that sexual discrimination is the sole basis for denying you a promotion, then you need a litigation attorney willing to take on the department in a lawsuit for sexual discrimination. Although a claim must be made with the city, before an action can be started, it is extremely unlikely that a settlement will be accomplished.
