Legal Question in Environmental Law in Louisiana

Neighbor putting chicken manure on property

Is there a law against my neighbor putting chicken manure on his property? The smell is killing me. It is getting in my home and car. Can I put a stop to it?

Re: Neighbor putting chicken manure on property

Dear Friend,

Yes; and the answer to your question is also found in the LOUISIANA CIVIL CODE, where it talks about a property owners rights and obligations. The obligation of a landowner is to use his property in such a way as to not deprive his neighbor of the pleasure of using his own. You will have to sue the guy for an injunction and/or for damages, unless he voluntarily agrees to correct the problem. There is more to it all than this, but this is something to think about. Good luck!

Sincerely,
