Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Mother Just Informed Father of child's existence

My husband's ex-girlfriend contacted him 2 days ago saying that her 5 year old twins are his. They have not had contact in 4 years, but no mention was ever made of the children being his during that time. If the children are proven to be his, would it be feasible to attempt to gain full physical custody? My husband is hurt that he may have been denied the right to see his kids for 5 years. We are also more stable, have great insurance, and well paying careers. She has also sent him threatening and profanity-laced emails (which I have saved copies of). Any advice?

First, do DNA testing. Once he is definitely determined to be the father. If he is the father, then he needs to be introduced to them and begin a relationship. Then you can worry about custody.
