I'm not sure i'm spelling it correctly, but What is a "dashon" with regards to mortgages and property deeds?

The word is French from Louisiana's early law. Dation en paiement is the full name. It is a method of turning over collateral in return for a cancellation of the debt. It must be done in writing and should be filed.
