Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

I went to an attorney's office to sign some will documents as a witness. I was not in the will.

The attorney prepped the documents with my maiden name. I told him that I dropped my maiden name (contrary to the tradition of keeping a maiden name as a middle name).

The lawyer said that the maiden name was still my "legal" name. I asked him twice how it could be legal if it is not on my social security card or driver's license. He never answered.

I'm curious. Please let me know, oh law gurus!

I do the same thing. If your were born "Mary Smith", you will always be Mary Smith. You may become Mary Smith Jones, revert back to Mary Smith after a divorce, remarry and become Mary Smith Brown, but you will always be Mary Smith.

As long as you are a competent witness, that's all that counts.
