Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

Property

My property is in my name, I had a live in boyfriend for 7 years. I live in Maine. They moved out 1 year ago. Now he is threatning to get a lawyer and take half of what I own. Is this possible?

Re: Property

There is only the thinest of arguments to support his claim to any of the property. Under a partnership theory, if he contributed to the upkeep, taxes, mortgage, and improved the property to add equity- ie- renovated the kitchen with his time or money, etc then he may be entitled to some share of the improved value, but not of the total value. On the other hand he sounds like he is using "half" in anger towards you without basis. Maybe your position in the matter, depending upon the actual facts, is that he paid money towards the mortgage like rent, but otherwise did not do anything significant that would have added to the property's increase in value.
