Legal Question in Technology Law in Maryland

Pictures on the Internet

I am creating a web page for a small Martial Arts Business and we would like to take pictures and 30 second movie clips of the entire class and post them on our web site. How ever we see local schools passing out a paper asking parents for permission to do this such thing. We were wondering what should this letter include so we can send it to the parents of our students.

Thank you

Re: Pictures on the Internet

Generally you need to get a person's permission to use their image in any way that is promotional, particularly if they are a public figure. If the images are clear enough you can make out the individuals, you may want to get their permission, however what I would suggest is that when people sign a contract with you, you include a clause that states images taken in the school, or at tournaments and related events may be used in school brochures or advertising.

For now, either have everyone sign new contracts or make up permission slips and have them signed.

Good luck,
