Legal Question in Construction Law in Maryland

Construction Company Went out of Buisness

I hired a construction company to add an addition on the back of my house. After 7 months and 20% down they finally got started. They finshed enough for two more draws totalling around 50 thousand dollars and then told me they had been seized by the court and have no more money. I had another contractor survey the job and told me Im out around 20 thousand dollars. Is there away to get my money back before they file for bankruptcy or start a new buisness under another name.

Re: Construction Company Went out of Buisness

When a construction contractor takes money in advance and then does not perform, it exposes them to a range of liabilities from licensing complaints (which usually provide for some state backed restitution - like a guarantee fund) to fraud which can in some instances prevent a bankruptcy discharge.

You should contact counsel of your choice as soon as possible.
