Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

A collection agency claims that I owe an outstanding balance for a credit card from the early 1990's. I have check all of my credit reports and this does not appear on any of the three reports. They have filed a suit with a district court in Maryland (I have not lived there in 5 yrs) to garnish my wages. Is this legal? Do I have any recourse?

The first step is to comply with the summons and complaint by filing a timely answer or showing up in court at the designated time. (The summons will tell you what to do). If you don't owe the money, you have to launch a defense. Regardless of whether you actually owe the money, ignoring the lawsuit will result in a judgment against you.
