Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

My brother is in the state of Maryland. He has a clean record with no priors. For the last 5 months he has been stealing from the same store. Estimates the amout to be $3000 in stuff. Primarily one type of thing over and over. He had medical bills & sold some of the things online and returned a couple. I convinced him to stop. He realizes how bad this is. He placed himself in therapy & almost went to the store to pay them back! I convinced him that this was not the thing to do. They are unaware of the thefts. Whats the worst case if caught. Could he avoid jail with no record? Probation/fines?

Anything is possible, but even a first time offender might be sentenced to serve the maximum, which in this case appears to be ten years imprisonment.

An experienced criminal defense attorney can help you evaluate the prosecution's case, any defenses that you might have, and any plea offer that might be made, so that you can decide whether to go to trial. Consider seeking a confidential consultation.
