Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

legal advise for those in rehab

I have a friend who has 2 warrants for VOP on 2nd degree assault and DUI charges from a couple of years ago. The friend is now in a 1 yr rehabilitation program by choice. I know MD bench warrants never expire, but what options are available besides turning ones' self in? Is it likely that a clean/sober person who has already been through a rehab program and pays required fees/fines will be severely punished if they are arrested? My friend works at the rehab facility as part of the program requirements so outside finances are not an option. What do you recommend?

legal advise for those in rehab

The chances of your friend prevaling in court on 2 violations of probation, without a lawyer, are slim and none. If the police find him, they will arrest him on the outstanding warrants. Sometimes a lawyer can convice the Judge to withdraw the bench warrants if a person is in the program. The person himself will not be able to do this, as once he contacts the Judge, he will be arrested.
