Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Name change of a minor living in Maryland , born in New York

What is the process to go about changing my daughter's last name from that of her mother's husband to mine? My daughter was born in New York state and her mother was married to another person at the time. We currently live in Maryland. All parties are in agreement to have her last name changed to mine.

You must file a petition for a name change in the circuit court of your county. You will be required to post a notice in a local newspaper so that anyone who wants to can object to the name change, even though that is obviously not going to happen. If you go to the clerk's office at the courthouse, they can probably help you fill out the necessary forms.
