Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Divorce/Child Custody

My husband filed for divorce. In his information, he's asking for custody of our son. If I have character reference letters, how like would the courts give our son to him?

Re: Divorce/Child Custody

You will need witnesses to testify on your behalf regarding your fitness as a parent and that awarding custody of the child would be in his best interest. Reference letters are generally not admissible in court for custody determinations.

Custody determinations involve many factors including the character and fitness of the parties, the living accommodations with each parent, where the child has primarily resided recently, etc. In addition, if the child has reached the age of 16, the court is required to consider the child's wishes regarding custody.
