Apparently you are the biological parent and the custodial parent wants legal custody and perhaps an order requiring you to pay child support. If you don't want to participate in the proceedings you don't have to unless you are served with a subpoena to appear in court, at a deposition or to produce records. However, the court has jurisdiction over you and can order you to support the child, which might include an earnings withholding order from your paycheck or at attachment of other assets if you ignore the order.
