Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Sibling custody

When I was 15, one of my two sisters and I were removed from our home due to physical and mental abuse from our father. My younger sister remained in the home and is now facing emotional abuse and mild neglect issues. How do I go about ontaining custody of her? Also, I live in MD, she lives in PA. We are approx two and a half hours apart...will that affect anything?

Re: Sibling custody

This would be quite difficult to do, since parents have priority over other family members on custody issues. If you are serious about this and are willing to invest signficant dollars in the process, the first step would be to engage an experienced family attorney in the area where your sister lives, as you will have to proceed in a PA court. You might contact whatever social services agency is available in that area to see if they would conduct an investigation of the family situation to see if there is merit to your claims.
