Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

Two years ago, I signed contract with apartment management company, because I forgot to purchase at the day I should move in. The manager refused to give me the key and contract. I tried to communicate with their director without response. Now they are suing me for 4 months empty rent, what should I do?

It sounds like you may have a good defense here, so you should plan to appear at court and defend this claim. You should also gather any documentation at all you have regarding this period, and try to put together a timeline of your recollection of how events transpired. You may want to consider hiring a lawyer to assist you; a case like this should not cost you much to defend and it may be a good investment. A lawyer might also be able to help you work out a deal with the management company to avoid court. The last thing you want to do is take a judgment on this. Feel free to email ([email protected]) or call (301.517.4823) if you'd like to discuss.

Good luck,

Sean
