security deposit

my mother died on 6-7-04, I still have not been able to get her security deposit from her lanlord. Do they now owe me interest and how can I make them give me the security deposit. They just do not follow through and do not contact me as they say they will.

If you opened an estate for your mother, the estate could file a small claims action against the landlord, but it could be dismissed because there is a 3 year deadline (known as the statute of limitations) for bringing such cases. Under MD law, security deposits are supposed to be held in accounts bearing 4% interest.
